Paul and Evi have teamed up to offer color slides or digital images of animals, plants, scenic and destination subjects. Emphasis is on close-ups of butterflies in natural postures, other insects, native animals, native birds, wildflowers, endangered species, and western scenics.

They have more than 50,000 35mm color slides of animals, plants, and scenics in their stock.

Paul A. Opler is an internationally known entomologist and conservationist. He has authored more than 150 articles and 6 books including the Peterson Field Guide to Eastern Butterflies, Peterson Field Guide to Western Butterflies, Peterson First Guide to Butterflies and Moths, Butterflies East and West , a coloring and activity book on butterflies of National Parks and refuges, and videos about Butterfly Gardening and Butterflies for Beginners (you may order books or videos from Amazon.com by clicking on hyperlink).   In addition to the photographs shown here, many of Paul and his wife Evi's butterfly and moth images may be seen at the Children's Butterfly Site and the Butterflies of North America

Paul and Evi share some hints and list some BOOKS AND EQUIPMENT that contribute to their success with close-up nature photography.

Evi Buckner is a professional photographer, artist, and German-English and English-German translator. Evi has had her slides selected in juried art shows.

Every summer Paul and Evi offer field classes in butterfly natural history. To register for classes to be taught in 2001, see the SCHEDULE, REGISTRATION INFORMATION, AND CLASS MATERIALS. Paul and Evi are invited speakers and trip leaders for at the 2000 Rio Grande Valley Butterfly Festival -October 20-22, 2000.

Photography Categories

North American Butterflies
We offer images of the vast majority of North American butterfly species and many of their caterpillars. Our 35mm slides are taken in nature of butterflies in natural postures.
Tropical Butterflies
We offer 35mm slides of about 800 kinds of tropical butterflies. Our slides come primarily from explorations in Mexico and Costa Rica.
European Butterflies
We offer 35 mm slides of about 200 butterfly species from Britain and western Europe. These include most of the more familiar butterflies, but many rarer ones are included as well.
Butterfly Houses
We offer 35mm transparencies of about 100 butterfly species in natural postures. These images were taken in several butterfly houses in Europe and North America. Almost all of the most commonly 'flown' butterflies are included.
Endangered Butterflies and Plants
We offer 35 mm images of several kinds of Federally listed, state-listed, candidate and declining butterflies as well as a few species of Federally listed wildflowers. Some images of mounted specimens are also included in our stock.
Insects and Spiders
We offer 35 mm transparencies of many hundreds of kinds of spiders, insects, and related arthropods such as peripatus (Onycophora) and crabs. Our images were taken in nature in North America, Central America, and Europe.
Insect Adaptations
We offer 35mm transparencies of various insect adaptations. These include mimics and models, background resemblance, polymorphisms, predation, leaf mines, insect fossils, and insect-plant relations.
Birds
We offer 35 mm transparencies of many species of wild birds taken in nature. Our best images are of larger waterbirds, wading birds, and gulls from North America and frigatebirds, toucans, and macaws Central America.
National Parks
We offer 35mm transparencies of scenery, wildlife, wildflowers and butterflies from western National Parks.
Moths
We offer 35mm transparencies of many hundred of moth species, mainly from North America. Our images include both natural poses from nature as well as specimen photos of museum specimens.
Western Scenery
We offer 35mm transparencies of many natural scenes from the western United States. The images include deserts, mountains, ocean coasts, prairies, rock formations and other natural features such as Monument Valley.
Tropical Scenery
We offer 35mm transparencies of tropical habitats and scenes from Mexico, Costa Rica, and St. Lucia.
Habitats
We offer 35mm transparencies of natural habitats from North America and Central America. These include eastern deciduous forests, alpine tundra, chapparal, prairies, coniferous forests, rain forests, thorn scrub, beaches, and many others.
Native Animals
We offer 35mm transparencies of many kinds of native animals or wildlife including mammals, reptiles, and amphibians. We have images from the United States, Mexico, and Costa Rica. We have marmot, pica, bison, and jaguars among many others.
Tropical Plants and Flowers
We offer 35mm transparencies of many kinds of wild and cultivated plants and flowers taken in Mexico, Costa Rica, and St. Lucia. We have images of many economic crop as well as ornamental species.
Western Wildflowers
We offer 35mm transparencies of many hundreds of kinds of western wildflowers and plants such as native shrubs and trees. Our stock is especially rich in species found in California and the Rocky Mountain states. We also include images of alien, invasive plants and weeds.
Cultivated Plants
We offer 35mm transparencies of many cultivated ornamental flowers and shrubs. Most kinds of common garden flowers are included in our stock.
General Photography
We offer 35mm transparencies of general topics such as buildings, barns, lighthouses, and rural. We have also have uniques images of Watts Towers, Rattlesnake Jacks, pumpkins, and winter scenery.
Senior Portraits
Evi offers senior portrait photo shoots in the Loveland, Ft. Collins, Berthoud, Colorado area. Portraits are taken in rustic, outdoor settings and are intended to capture that special personality and charm.
